CS reviews action taken against forceful collection of money
ITANAGAR, Feb 16: State Chief Secretary Ramesh Negi recently held a review meeting of police action on forceful collection of money by the students’ unions in the preceding quarter and expressed his satisfaction on the action taken by the district police against criminals who have been forcefully collecting money or making demands in the name of student unions.
It was informed that on Oct 10, 2014 the President, General Secretary and the Finance Secretary of All Changlang District Students’ Union were found forcefully collecting money through written appeal under their signature. Both the President and the General Secretary were arrested and the case has been charge sheeted before the Judicial Magistrate.

AALO, Feb 16: Nyamar Karbak of Indian National Congress won the bye election to 27th Liromoba (ST) Assembly Constituency defeating his nearest rival Bai Gadi of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by a narrow margin of 119 votes.
While Karbak polled 3,808 votes, Gadi polled 3,689 votes followed by Independent candidates Lijum Ronya (2,589), Raksap Yomcha (355) and Johny Tali (40 votes).

Massive destruction of poppy cultivation at Damro
YINGKIONG Feb 16: Continuing the movement against complete eradication of opium addiction and its cultivation in Upper Siang, a massive destruction of Poppy plants was carried out by the Upper Siang Women Welfare Society (USWWS) at Damro village on Feb 14 and 15 last.
The 20 activists of USWWS led by Oma Pertin and Dr. Gepeng Litin assisted by around 31 police personnel headed by OC Atan Taki, 5 Forest Guards and several ALCs under the supervision and direction of ADC Mariyang Ranpok Perme conducted the destruction of several hectares of Poppy cultivation at Damro.
The District Administration in absence of Central Bureau of Narcotic Control has been taking steps to coordinate with the USWWS in their social services to eliminate Opium addiction, Poppy cultivation and other narcotic substances from the society. The District Administration had requisitioned around 10 numbers of vehicles for the operation. According to official sources, heavy expenses have been incurred for food and travel etc. by the local administration, USWWS and other women self help groups in this major operation. There has been no involvement and assistance of the Central Bureau of Narcotics Control in physical and financial terms during the destruction of Poppy cultivations.
While, lauding the social welfare activities taken up by the USWWS, Upper Siang Deputy Commissioner Remo Kamki has appealed the concerned authorities at the Central Bureau of Narcotics Control Guwahati to provide financial and logistic support to the local administration and the Upper Siang Women Welfare Society for future programmes. Investigation on to trace more captive elephant calves

PASIGHAT, Feb 16: The forest department (territorial) of Pasighat in East Siang district is continuing search operation in dense jungles of East Siang, Lower Dibang Valley and Namsai to rescue more elephant calves from the illegal captivity of poachers (phandi).

The officials have collected inputs about the elephant catchers, become aware of the fact that more elephant calves are being captivated inside dense jungle of Dibang Valley and Namsai areas by the illegal traders. This indicates that a powerful elephant poaching network is active in the NE region, some extending upto Mynamar and Thailand.
Referring investigation report of the case, officials informed that illegal activities like wildlife hunting and elephant catching activities in the region is going on under active connivance of the local people. The foresters on February 2 arrested Asik Yirang (Gaon Burah) and Lomin Lego of Siluk village in connection with elephant cases. The duo reportedly contemplated illegal activities to capture elephant calves and to take them away safely. The foresters also nabbed two others, namely Toni Borang and Todol Pertin from Dambuk, who had hired the elephant catchers to Mebo area.

Having seen the behavior of tourists and experienced as a tour operator for the last many years, Tamo, who is also the principal operator of the state’s people choice awardees Duyu Tours & Travels, recommends Home Stay as one of major source of income generation for the people of Arunachal Pradesh, especially in rural areas.
He is currently guiding two overseas tourists, who are on a 28 days tour programme. As per programme, they had to stay two days at Ziro in a Home Stay. But excited with uniqueness and comfort in Home Stay, the couple extended one more day in home stay constructed with typical traditional house of Apatani run by Duyu Haniya and Aming at Reru village, told Tamo.
Tamo further said every rural house of Ziro could be turned into Home Stay. He, however, gave emphasis on clean and hygienic toilets, cleanliness of the surrounding etc.

Impressed by the scenic beauty of Ziro and the attitude of its people, the visiting couple Guillaume Jacques Noel of France and Irmina Kotiuk of Poland appreciated the uniqueness in preserving the forest such as bamboo garden, pine grove, practice of agricultural system.
The tourist couple also attended a Mida ceremony, part of Apatani marriage system in which groom is personated with bacon (Yoh Asso). They have noted the procedure curiously and said ‘they never have heard such kind of system in which bacon is considered as main part of the transaction’.
Later they also met with the elderly tattooed persons of the community who still have nose plugs. “This community has vast treasure of tradition and culture. If situation permit, we will visit here again”, couple said.

Don’t kill stray animals
Dear Editor,
I was appalled by the drive to kill hundreds of stray dogs, initiated by town magistrate Tony Mitkong in Bomdila on 14th of February 2015. I, on behalf of all the animal lovers, condemn the act carried by the town magistrate and the committees of Bomdila Bazar and Bomdila Town highly.
Bomdila is a place of Buddhism and ''Ahimsa'' is one of the cardinal virtue and an
important tenet of Buddhism. Ahimsa means ''not to injure'', is also referred to
as nonviolence, and it applies to all living beings -
Animals have equal rights to live and thrive on this planet as we. Killing is not a solution for rabies and scabies. Mass killing is not only extremely cruel, inhuman act but also violation of THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS ACT, 1960. Also according to the 'The Welfare of Stray Dogs, India', killing dogs have been proved to be a failure in preventing rabies, so sterilization of dogs was initiated instead of killing them.
Dogs are territorial by nature and it is in them to protect their territories which may result in biting human beings at times. There should be mass awareness regarding animals and their ways in our society. We must learn to cohabitate with animals peacefully. There are more peaceful and humanistic ways to control rabies and scabies menace such as sterilization, immunization/ vaccination of animals in large and raising awareness.
The veterinarians should be motivated to carry on the drive all over Arunachal on prevention of animal cruelty, awareness on animal diseases and its prevention, sterilization and vaccination of animals.
I appeal to all the people of Arunachal, the district magistrates and the high level officers to show at least some amount of humanity when they deal with animals. We, human beings are the not the sole inhabitants of this planet. We have been sharing this earth with million other organisms since billions of years. We are smart, we can think, we can introspect, so we must act accordingly. We can find other creative and better solutions to menaces instead of taking the inhuman and cruel ways to solve a problem.

Now we are living in 21st century and the days are changing rapidly. With this rapid changing world, we need to change ourselves and our mindsets and think for oneness and development of our people and the state. The emergence of Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi and its success story really influences and inspires us tremendously. We all should be encouraged to do leaders like Arvind Kejriwal and his companions who are truthful, kind, liberal and honest. Dear Editor,
Through the columns of your esteemed daily, I would like to disclose one basic grievance of the student community of Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Doimukh, Arunachal Pradesh. That as per the academic guidelines a student should be promoted to the next higher class only if he/she secures the pass mark in the preceding examination. And the admission for the next class/semester generally takes place only after the declaration of the examination result. But, here in the University, the system is quite opposite as per the guidelines. In our University, the students are rather compelled to take admission for the next semester without seeing the result of last the examination. In such case, sometimes students face a painful moment after taking the admission to the next higher class/semester, unfortunately if the student fails in the last examination, then he/she have to leave the institution. In this regard, a simple question arises, why so delay in declaring the results? And why don't take the admission for the next semester after the result?
So, I on behalf of the students of RGU would like to appeal to the concerned authority to declare the semester examination results soon as everyone is eagerly waiting for. Also one more humble request to the authority from the next academic session, it would be better if some changes be made in admission process by taking the admission to the next semester only after the announcement of the results. Hope for your kind initiative in the matter.
